Buying a house on a deadline?

Say so when you call and give us the contract date. Inspection periods are short and these get scheduled around them.

Before you call

• Photograph what you are seeing, with something for scale beside it.
• Note when you first noticed it and whether it has changed since.
• Have any prior inspection reports or repair paperwork to hand.
• If a home inspector flagged it, have their report available — an engineer will start there.

If something feels unsafe

Keep people off and away from beneath any structure you are worried about until it has been looked at. Structural failures give considerably less warning than people expect.
