Our engineer network covers Louisville and Jefferson County, the eastern suburbs, and Southern Indiana across the river. Indiana work is referred to engineers licensed in Indiana, since the two states license separately.

How Louisville Divides Up

Louisville grew outward from the river in rings, and the rings are the most useful map of it for structural purposes. The 19th-century core is solid masonry on limestone. The streetcar suburbs beyond it are framed houses on narrow lots from the 1900s to the 1930s. The post-war county is block basements on subdivision fill. Cross the river and it is bottomland with a high water table. Four bands, four sets of failure modes, and a house tells you which band it is in before anyone measures anything.

That is why the areas below are organised the way they are rather than by distance. Old Louisville and the Highlands are close together and structurally unrelated; Jeffersontown and Prospect are both post-war county and behave very differently because one sits on flat engineered fill and the other on a cut-and-fill hillside. Knowing which band a property falls into narrows the likely problem before a site visit starts.

Where the Coverage Ends

Beyond these areas we cover Bullitt and Oldham counties routinely — Shepherdsville, Mount Washington, La Grange, Crestwood. Further out than about forty minutes from downtown, the travel starts to cost more than it is worth for a single inspection, and we would rather say so than take the trip.
